Dierks Bentley Visited the 'Today' Show and Left With a New Dog

Dierks Bentley visited Today on Thursday (Aug. 1) and left the set with an eight-month-old Border Collie named Goose.

Bentley met the new addition to his family during a pet adoption segment of the show, featuring dogs from New York-based Muddy Paws Rescue.

"I've been texting back-and-forth with my wife and kids," he said during a later conversation with Jenna Bush Hager and Willie Geist. "They really want a third dog. My wife for her birthday said, 'All I want is a third dog.'"

On May 2, the Bentley family said goodbye to its dog of 14 years, George. In 2016, another furry friend named Jake passed away, inspiring the song "Can't Be Replaced."

As Bentley chatted with Hager and Geist, the paperwork was being finalized. "I didn't think I was going to get another dog, we already have two," Bentley said in an Instagram video. "But, I mean, come on. How can you say no to that (face)?"

Goose—or Garrett, if Bentley accidentally picked up the wrong sibling—moves to a home he shares with three kids and two other dogs.

Bentley joked that two dogs make a tall enough task: "The amount of pooper scooper time I already spend with two dogs, and one of them pees everywhere."

That same day, Bentley took Goose along to Buffalo for the next stop on his Burning Man Tour. Per an Instagram photo, Goose even donned a wig as an honorary member of his owner's retro side project Hot Country Knights.

During Bentley's set, a dog without a forever home that morning took the stage as part of one of the summer's hottest tours. The Burning Man Tour continues down the East Coast this month and ends next month in California.
