Robert Davi Reveals Why He Moved Out of California
However, despite spending decades living in the California sunshine, Davi and his family moved from one beach state. And set their sights on Florida. Davi said there was a long list of reasons why he ultimately chose to relocate. One of them was the growing number of homeless people in the state.
"The overwhelming influx of homelessness in all communities, the political corruption and the waste of money by the local education agencies in Los Angeles that's not used for students but for administration costs, and most of that goes to the political party of their choice, and the mismanagement of the LA fires were all [contributing] factors," the "Goonies" actor said in a statement to Fox News Digital (via the New York Post).
The actor also added that the rise of crime in the state affected his quality of life. And the reluctance of the authorities to do anything to stop it
"When I first came to LA, I could go to CVS, and it was fine. I could go to a store. It was fine. Now they have gates, they have guards, and items are behind lock and key because of the rampant crime," Davi added. "It's about people coming in and the acceptable aspect of going into any store and ripping off what they want and not being stopped."
Actor Reveals 'Last Straw' Before Relocating
Despite all of those contributing factors, the actor says that he still held on to the belief that things would go back to normal. Or at least the current conditions would improve. But the crime appeared to worsen. And the December 2021 stabbing death of music executive Clarene Avant's wife Jacqueline was the "last straw." Leading him to set sail to the Sunshine State.
"Why did I leave California? It was knowing this and watching this happen. It was the nail in my coffin," Davi said. "California was seeping into this s—, the crime that was happening within communities and continually encroaching into communities ... a home invasion and murder by a criminal that was let go three different times?"
According to the actor, he and his family moved out of California "months" after the murder happened.
