Fast-moving brushfires in Malibu are forcing residents in its path to evacuate. Among those affected are Barbra Streisand, Cher, and, of course, Dick Van Dyke.

According to the New York Post, the fire was first reported on Monday night at around 10:45 PM, where authorities classed it as a "small" brushfire. The blaze has since moved toward the ocean, which has prompted mandatory evacuation orders.

ABC7 reports that a home across the street from where Van Dyke lives has burned down, but his house is still intact. The evacuation went smoothly, although Van Dyke's cat, Bobo, couldn't be retrieved before they left.

Fortunately, Van Dyke has recently posted on

Facebook that they have since returned to the area and found Bobo as soon as they got back.

It's definitely true what they say about cats having nine lives!

The Brushfires Pose A Serious Threat To Homes In The Area

Images of the blaze look like something out of a disaster movie. The Brushfire, referred to as the Franklin Fire, moved rapidly thanks to high winds fanning the flames. The New York Post reports that the fire has engulfed more than 2,800 acres of land.

As a precaution, authorities ordered around 6000 people to evacuate the area, but the incident is now under control.

A report from ABC7 shows the path the fire took through the Serra Retreat area. While the flames damaged several buildings, only one building was completely destroyed.

Firefighters worked relentlessly through the night with efforts from authorities on the ground and in the sky. Even volunteer residents got involved in the firefighting effort. One resident said, "We saved our house." "In Malibu, we know there's going to be fires, so we prepare."

The property damage is quite severe in the aftermath, but many Serra Retreat residents will at least have something left to return to.
