Detroit Woman Zooms Into Court From Driver Seat, Judge Is Furious

The woman claimed that she was being driven, but Judge Michael McNally saw through her lies. She got some choice words from the judge.

We've all had times when we need to get somewhere. Things keep going wrong, you're running late, you just have to get there quickly. But some people take this a little too far and need to get their priorities set straight.

A Detroit judge expressed frustration at a woman who logged into a virtual court hearing using Zoom. A usual thing, right? The only thing—she was in the driver's seat, actively driving a moving car, per the New York Post.

Kimberly Carroll not only showed up while driving, but she was also late to her own hearing. The strange incident happened this Monday, March 23. She was accused of owing almost $2,000 to a consumer debt buyer.

Because she was late, Judge Michael McNally gave a default judgment. This meant she'd have to pay the debt, as well as filing and service fees. But then she showed up—in the most unexpected way possible.

After a court clerk said an unidentified iPhone was trying to join the Zoom session, the court admitted Carroll. Once she turned on her camera, she was clearly shown as being in a moving car.

Judge McNally Had Some Choice Words for the Woman in the Driver Seat

And Judge McNally was not very happy to see her in the car.

She tried to excuse herself. "I'm sorry, I have an emergency. I'm going out of town for a family member," she said. She then tried to make it seem like she was the passenger not the driver. "I will have my driver pull over... I didn't know I wasn't allowed to be in a car."

McNally saw right through this and immediately started probing her. "Am I crazy, or does it not look like you're driving that car? What side of the car are you on?" She didn't have a clear answer for him and kept stumbling on her words.

"You're lying to me, right?" he said. Once she failed to show the driver, he pressed her on the fact she was lying. "No, you weren't on the passenger side. Do you think I'm that stupid?"

What a strange case!
