Artist Susanna Bauer has managed to artfully re-imagine one of nature’s most delicate and overlooked creations.
Leaves are incredibly easy to break, bend and tear with just a touch of a fingertip. That’s why her art pieces, which incorporate complicated geometric patterns crocheted into leaves of all shapes and sizes are so mind-boggling to look at.
With much care and forethought, Bauer adds incredible details and entirely reshapes these leaves into eye-catching works of art.
The amount of patience, care and time that goes into these small projects is astounding. The result is something that brings a new level of beauty to these regularly overlooked pieces of nature.
“There is a fine balance in my work between fragility and strength,” Bauer shares on her website. “Literally, when it comes to pulling a fine thread through a brittle leaf or thin dry piece of wood, but also in a wider context – the tenderness and tension in human connections, the transient yet enduring beauty of nature that can be found in the smallest detail, vulnerability and resilience that could be transferred to nature as a whole or the stories of individual beings.”
