Deadly Wildfires In California Could Have Major Impact On 2028 Olympics

The wildfires show little signs of slowing as the winds pull them across the state. The drastic lack of water has rendered many firefighters helpless, and the situation continues to worsen. Now, as the flames continue to spread, many sports locations are threatened.

In the path of the wildfires lie many of the venues designated for the 2028 Olympics. If these are torched by the inferno, it will cost the country even more than it has already. The world is waiting for the US to host the international games.

Many Olympics Locations In The Path Of The Wildfires

The UCLA campus, which is designated as the location for the Olympic Village, has already been evacuated. Now, students are being asked to conduct studies from home. If destroyed, this will leave the US searching for a new home for the various countries' athletes.

The Olympics golf tournament will be held at the Riviera Golf Club, provided the wildfires don't take it first. This location is one of the closest to the fires. Presently, it is only five miles from the Palisades wildfires, and well within the evacuation zone.

The LA SoFi Stadium was set to break records at the 2028 Olympics by being the largest swimming venue in Olympic history. However, it is, currently, only a few miles from the evacuation zone. Only a few days ago, the Rams-Vikings playoff game at the stadium was moved due to smoke.

Furthermore, the Crypto.com Arena is only around 20 miles from the disaster zone. The venue is designated as the location for all the gymnastics events. This is just another of the many places set for the Olympics that could be threatened by the LA wildfires.

The wildfires in LA are already going to cost the country phenomenal amounts of money. Now, Accuweather is predicting losses of between $135bn-$150bn. The area is home to some of America's most expensive buildings. Consequently, as the wildfire continues to eat its way across the state, that number will only continue to grow.
