Footage Shows That Five Students Were Hit
As reported by PEOPLE, Brevard County court records show Latasha Mullings has been charged with 11 counts of battery and one count of assault.
A probable cause affidavit states that, after reviewing surveillance footage, police observed the 41-year-old hitting five students, all aged 2 to 4, on several occasions.
The situation first came to light when a parent reported her concerns to Kaitlin Fletcher, the director of Mustard Seed Kids in West Melbourne, Florida. In response, Fletcher reviewed footage from Mullings' classroom between May 19 and May 26.
Upon discovering the assaults on the footage, Fletcher contacted the police on May 27, initiating the investigation.
The Daycare Worker Also Threw a Shoe
Surveillance footage revealed that Mullings hit two students in the head with a metal stapler. She also allegedly threw her shoe at a student, though she missed.
The affidavit also states that Mullings allegedly slapped a toddler in the face three times. She also struck another child in the head with a bucket and hit a child across the face with a stuffed animal. Another child was allegedly smacked on the hand with a shoe.
Mullings was scheduled to appear in court on May 29. Records show that the hearing was canceled. She made bond prior to her hearing. It is unclear when Mullings will appear in court. It is also unknown whether she has entered a plea or has retained an attorney to speak on her behalf.
Mullings was fired from Mustard Seed Kids following her review of the footage. When Mullings was confronted by Fletcher on May 26, she allegedly said to her, "My babies are going to miss me."
