Authorities are accusing a woman of killing her mother in an incident a neighbor described as "literally like an episode of Law and Order."

Per a
press release by the Poughkeepsie Police Department, the stabbing occurred on Monday afternoon at around 1:19 PM. Officers responded to a report of a stabbing at 2 Oak Crescent. They found the victim, Olga Hinds-Coley, 78, with a knife wound to her chest. Emergency Services provided medical assistance at the scene, but Hinds-Coley died from her injuries.Police identified Denise Gilpin, 50, the victim's daughter, as a 'person of interest' during an investigation. Authorities arrested Gilpin the following day and charged her with second-degree murder, a Class A-1 Felony. The suspect is reportedly being held without bail, and the investigation is still ongoing.
News 12 interviewed Carlos Marzano, a neighbor, who described the scene. "Police cars, fire trucks, everybody is scrambling. It's literally like an episode of Law and Order." He said, "It's the textbook. I never thought it would happen," Marzano added. Police have not determined a motive but say the attack 'was not random.'
The Killing On Oak Crescent Is The Latest In A Series Of Similar Crimes
Multiple outlets report that the stabbing is just the most recent knife crime in the last week. News 12 says that there have been three stabbings in as many days. Police have reportedly stressed that the incidents are not related.
In an interview, Debbie Dionysius, a friend of the victim, said, "We'd make a point to run into each other. Yknow, to make sure each of us is ok."
"Everybody is just on edge," Dionysius explained. "Something has got to give, and not something like everyone turning to violence," she added. Per the Poughkeepsie Journal, a 51-year-old man was stabbed in the chest on Saturday night near the Goodnight Kenny bar. He died from his injuries. Police have arrested Robert Robinson, 59, with second-degree murder in connection with his death. Robinson reportedly has four previous convictions. Per a
statement by police, they have not revealed the victim's identity pending contact with his next of kin.
