According to a report from a neighbor, 37-year-old daughter, Shanelle Reed suffered from bad mental health. When a fight broke out between the father and daughter, it ended up with her killing him with a gun.
According to police, her father had initially called the police telling them that his daughter had locked him out of the house. A few hours later, she called the police informing them that her father was assaulting her. She had locked herself in their home, and he was unscrewing the deadbolt.
The father was attempting to enter the home by unscrewing the lock of the door. So, feeling threatened, Shanelle went upstairs to get her gun. This is when she called the police, who responded. However, it was too late, and the father-daughter altercation had turned violent.
Daughter Shot Her Father Through The Door
As he attempted to open the door by unscrewing the bold, Shanelle told police she shot at him. "I shot towards him, which looked to be his left thigh," she told police in a statement. Apparently, this made him back off again, but she decided to make sure he had got the message.
Speaking to police, she explained her actions further. "He seemed to hesitate while still working on the door, but then, he eventually left the house, and I shot towards him once more, and called 911 to let them know."
When police arrived they found a Glock 23 gun, a magazine containing 40 caliber rounds, a bucket of 40 caliber ammunition, and two 40 caliber shell casings. She had killed her father, who died from gunshot wounds.
She is now being charged with first-degree murder. Although she claims that she was only trying to warn him off and shoot towards his leg, she ended up killing him. According to neighbors, her father had gone to great lengths to help her with her mental health, trying to give her as much independence as he could while still taking care of her.
