Dan + Shay's 'Tequila Tuesday' Street Party Draws Nearly 10,000 Fans to Music Row

About ten thousand fans packed a shut down Music Row street for the Dan + Shay Tequila Tuesday street party. The event was a "thank you" you fans for helping make the song "Tequila" easily the biggest of the duo's career.

"It's nuts," Shay Mooney told a collection of reporters gathered at the ASCAP headquarters in Nashville before the show, where friends and co-workers gathered to celebrate the single reaching No. 1 on country radio charts. "This record as a whole, it feels much bigger."

Fans lined up in the early morning hours to be part of the event at night. "They're out there melting on the streets right now," Dan Smyers says. "Tequila"-themed signs lined the streets of Music Row as production crews assembled a makeshift stage right outside the band's record label headquarters, Warner Music Nashville.

"Tequila" became a multi-week No. 1 radio single just recently on the country airplay chart. Even more impressive, the song racked up nearly one billion on-demand streams. It became the fourth most-streamed country song of 2018 not long ago. The song became their third platinum song, after "From The Ground Up" and "19 You + Me."

Those are all huge milestones for a duo that teetered on the verge of huge breakthroughs multiple times. And now, "Tequila" is impacting some pop charts, usually an indicator of good crossover potential. "It's a really cool opportunity for us to spread country music to people who may not have listened to it before," Smyers says.

In fact, fans new to country are already showing up to their shows. "They're like, I've never been to a country show but everybody here is so happy, it's great!" Smyers says.

Smyers was a co-writer on "Tequila" with Nicolle Galyon and Jordan Reynolds, who joined the pair both before the party and up on stage later in the evening. The party also raised money for Musicians On Call. The non-profit helps bring musicians to hospital patients.

The band has already released their next single from their third studio album, titled "Speechless." Smyers and Mooney used video from their weddings to make the music video. The new video already has nearly 15 million views in just three months.

Mooney says the self-titled album is their best collection of songs yet. And that's why they made it self-titled. "Putting your stamp on something is a nerve-racking thing," Mooney says.

The album is already a chart-topper, hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums charts upon its release. Dan + Shay are currently on tour with Rascal Flatts.
