While driving a Ford Expedition on Yale Street, the father was going double the speed limit. Soon after, he crashed into a Chevy Avalanche after it cut him off while turning into a gas station. With how fast he was driving, the Ford went airborne and flipped upside down in a ditch, according to the Daily Mail.

Cold-Hearted Dad Abandons Family After Crashing Speeding Car

A man and a woman were in the Chevy during the accident, and they crashed into the guardrail. Meanwhile, the couple's eight-year-old child was ejected from the vehicle on impact. According to the Houston Police Department, the man immediately sprinted away from the horrifying crash scene.

Instead of helping his family or checking their injuries, he quickly jumped into a different car. The vehicle then drove away from the collision, leaving the mother and her children to fend for themselves. Luckily, the driver of the Chevy stuck around to cooperate with the investigation.

According to ABC13, everyone in the family survived but are hospitalized in critical condition. "I have no idea what's going through his mind at the time," said Capt. Ryan Watson from the HPD.

"I don't know if there was some other reason that he felt he needed to flee." Watson revealed that investigators are trying to track down the father to "get some answers."

Despite the illegal speeding, the police noted that the person driving the Chevy made an illegal turn. Even so, it doesn't excuse how terrifyingly fast the father was driving, endangering the lives of his wife and children.

The Chevy driver, John McCoy, gave his own account of the horrific crash. "No lights. I looked at my mirror before I was going to turn. I ain't see nothing," McCoy recounted. "Next thing I know, I got ready to turn, BANG! They drive up and down the road, like it's the freeway."

Good thing that McCoy stayed at the scene of the accident since he helped save the injured family members. "Once I went down there to help, he came out of there. He trampled over the babies and the momma and all," said McCoy. "She was bleeding everywhere. He took off running. He met another car down the street and got in the car and took off."
