Cyndi Lauper Garners Ridicule Over Viral Video As Fans Defend Her

Cyndi Lauper, at 71 years old, performed at her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour, which is "her first major run in over a decade". A clip went viral of her less-than-stellar performance, but her fans came together to defend her.

The superstar singer was recorded at one of her shows by a fan and uploaded to TikTok. A rather critical viewer reposted the video to X, with the caption, "WTF happened to Cyndi Lauper?"

The video shows Cyndi Lauper, in a silver outfit and light green hair, singing "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough." She has aged, and that's normal and nothing to judge. However, she isn't exactly spry, and seeing her bust those dance moves and sing is a little... cringey.

Not to knock what she's built, and it's definitely a feat that she still has people wanting to see her, but there's no shame in taking down the theatrics a notch. Although the user reposting the video was a little harsh with the caption, there is some merit in wondering why she's still trying to do what she did all those decades ago.

Some piled in on the judgement, "As a Gen X'er it's painful to watch some of the musicians that we loved try and come back and do it 40 years later. Alexander O'Neal, Frankie Valli, Madonna, Axel Rose. Leave us our memories," wrote one.

But her fans aren't having any of it.

Cyndi Lauper Defended By Fans

Fans ran to the comments to defend Cyndi Lauper.

"Dude, she's 71 years old. I hope I'm hopping around like that at 71," defends one.

"She dropped multiple hits, made many albums, aged, and had a career that resulted in a fan base that she's still performing for decades later. Will you be able to do the same? does being a dumb--s on twitter see the same longevity?" another fan wrote.

"The same thing that will happen to you, age," points out another.

"Nothing. She's a damn goddess. Leave Cyndi alone," a fan writes.

"OK, so, she's old and weird. She used to be young and weird. She's still one of my favorite female voices. I'm a child of the 80's and "Time after Time" still kills me every time," wrote another fan, providing perspective.

All the fans have a point here. Although I really don't think the outfit and dramatic dances did her any justice, it is very impressive.
