How Is Marc Singer Doing?

Page Six reports that an ambulance was called to Singer's home in Los Angeles after 2 p.m. on Oct. 17.

Doctors reportedly ran tests and kept the 78-year-old overnight. Singer was then released on Sunday after his tests came back clear. However, it is not known what caused the pain that brought him to the hospital.

The Actor Is Known for His Roles in Cult Films

Singer made a name for himself as a stage actor. But it was in the 1980s he became known for action roles, including Beastmaster and the acclaimed miniseries V.

"It was an exciting time for a young actor, but it was an instructive time as the years went by and I reflected more deeply on the kind of stuff we did," he told The A.V. Club in 2024. "But as far as a working experience, it was like going to a rodeo every day. Whatever you thought of that you wanted to do, they'd let you do it."

Singer was performing Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew when Don Coscarelli, the writer and director of Beastmaster, selected him for the title role of the beloved cult film.

"So there was really no casting," recalled Singer. "There was just a meeting. We met, and we had a conversation and, man, we got right at it! And the next thing I knew, I was being fitted for my little leather hula skirt, and off we went into the desert again."

Beastmaster would go on to spawn two more sequels and also a television series. However, Singer said he is surprised by how the story has kept evolving.

"So you never know how much life there is in a project and how much more life there might be yet," he said. "So I look forward to more of that, if there's more to say!"
