A Crossing Guard has died after being struck by a car while holding a red stop sign on the job.

Bruce Morlack, 74, from New Jersey, assisted a pair of students as they crossed the road near Burlington City High School. This was during the early morning school run.
CCTV footage reveals a red car sped past Morlack, seemingly ignoring the pedestrians and the stop sign.
Unfortunately, the red car is followed by a white vehicle. This second car hits Morlack as he stands in the way and protects the students from the impact. He died from the injuries. The incident happened on Friday, December 6th, 2024, at around 7:20 am.
According to a press release by the City of Burlington Police Department, the driver of the white vehicle stayed at the scene after the incident and is cooperating with authorities.
The police announced in a press release that they had also identified the driver of the red vehicle on Monday, December 9th, 2024.
A Guard Remembered As A Hero
The town is mourning the loss of Bruce Morlack, but people remember him for his actions. There's no doubt his quick thinking saved lives, which is nothing short of heroic.
In an interview with 6ABC, his sister explains, "He'd give anything to anybody to help if they wanted it." She also explains that Morlack became a Crossing Guard during his retirement. He was bored, wanted something to do, and loved the job. "He was a loving father and grandfather, and when he wasn't spending time with them, he was at the local Tankard Lounge."
The Tankard Lounge has since reserved his favorite chair, a bud, and his pool stick.

another press release, the City of Burlington Police Department says, "Bruce's heroic actions saved students from harm." "He will forever be remembered as a true hero. " A town parade took place on the weekend, and a moment of silence was held in memory of his actions.At the time of writing, the City of Burlington Police Department has not provided any word on whether they have brought any criminal charges against either driver.
