Mother nature regularly provides a lot of beauty in our natural surroundings, but sometimes artists can bring a whole new viewpoint to an everyday object with their unique vision. One Australian artist has done just that with his beautiful cracked log lamps.
The selected logs have naturally occurring cracks that the artist highlights with the glow from an LED lighting source. Artist Duncan Meerding, who is legally blind, is inspired to create his minimalistic and innovative works by his unique view of light in his surroundings.
"Being legally blind, this vision of light emanating from the peripheries and the highly tactile nature of my work reflect the alternative sensory world within which I design," Meerding said, according to My Modern Met. "By turning [the logs] into a vessel for light, we can bring the outside in, and be reminded of our intrinsic connection with nature."
Each log has a warm and inviting glow that draws you in and brings a welcoming feel to any area. The logs are weather resistant, and can be used indoors or outdoors as a table, stool or as a lighting decoration. Each individual log is currently priced at $600.
