Couple Tie The Knot In Hospital After Tragic Emergency

After a sudden medical emergency just days before their wedding, this couple had to tie the knot in the hospital. 23-year-old Ariana Sleen went to the ICU in Duluth, Minnesota, after experiencing severe back pain, according to KFVS12.

Ariana is also pregnant, which made the medical issue much more severe. Her fiancé, Chandler Sleen, told the outlet what had happened. "She had very bad pneumonia, went into septic shock, and that's when they had to put the tube in," he revealed.

With the couple's wedding day just two weeks away and Ariana carrying their child, it was a scary situation for both of them. "I was definitely very terrified," said Chandler. "I mean, these are the two most important people in my life right here and they were both struggling. It was very scary."

With her health getting worse by the minute, the hospital prepared to perform an emergency C-section. The good news is that Ariana eventually got better, as well as the baby's health. Just a day before their original wedding date, hospital staff took her off the ventilator.

Although they wouldn't have their planned wedding day, they didn't let this medical emergency ruin their big moment. "All the nurses and everybody came together and put us in what's known as the 'Taylor Swift Suite,' I guess, in the NICU, or the ICU, and we got married," said Ariana.

"I just tried to clean up the room a little, make room for a wedding cake," said Deanna Anderson, one of Ariana's nurses. She helped take care of the newlywed alongside nurses Madeline Vogel and Olivia Schmidt.

"We had to get creative," said Vogel. "This might top the list for the happiest things I've seen at work." The three nurses were grateful to have been there on their spontaneous wedding day in the hospital.

Ariana was also just as thankful for the care these nurses gave her. "These ladies have been nothing but the kindest, sweetest people," she said. "They'll get an invite to the reception and everything for sure."

The couple is excited to return to Essentia Health hospital once she's able to give birth. Their baby Sebastian is due on June 29. "We get to come back to the same spot where we got married," Ariana added.
