A New Mexico couple, Jammy Jackson, 59, and Patricia Madrid, 36, have been arrested and charged with child abuse after allegedly locking Jackson's 14-year-old autistic daughter inside a chicken coop for "extended periods of time." There, she was exposed to extreme weather conditions, enduring the alleged punishment for almost a year.

According to The Durango Herald, the 14-year-old child, who is autistic and has ADHD, suffered the alleged abuse from November 2023 to September 2024. The girl told her grandmother about the abuse she endured, which took place during extreme weather conditions in summer and winter.
Text messages between Jackson and Madrid allegedly revealed the various types of abuse the 14-year-old was subjected to, as per an arrest affidavit. It appears that her getting locked inside a chicken coop stemmed from a very restrictive "restroom schedule" enforced by both Jackson and Madrid. Reportedly, the girl was only allowed to go to the restroom once in the morning and once in the evening. They would even allegedly restrict her water consumption to avoid her needing to go the restroom.
The couple allegedly started locking the teen up when she started using the restroom without their permission. The affidavit would state that they began making her stand outside and considered building a cage to lock her up. However, they would resort to using the chicken coop instead, police say, using a padlock and chain to lock her inside. There, the girl was subjected to the weather and insect bites from "flies, bees, spiders, and mosquitos." She also wore earmuffs and a blindfold while on the coop.
Further Alleged Abuse
Sadly, this was not the only type of abuse that the 14-year-old girl endured. The girl was allegedly starved, forcing her to steal vegetables so she could have something to eat. On one occasion, Jammy Jackson allegedly put a gun to her head. She said that he didn't mind killing her as it was "no different from killing an animal."
The affidavit also detailed how the girl was reportedly forced to remain standing from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. She was only fed ice cream, ramen, and the occasional banana, only feeding her once a day.
Police were contacted by Child Protective Services, who expressed concerns over the 14-year-old's wellbeing. They removed the girl from the home in September 2024. Following months of investigation, the
Farmington Police Department announced that both Jammy Jackson and Patricia Madrid were arrested. They have been charged with 14 felony counts, "including child abuse and conspiracy to commit child abuse."Jackson and Madrid have denied the allegations and claimed that the 14-year-old girl lied. Jackson started dating Madrid following the girl's mother's death. A text message allegedly written by Madrid reads, "I wish that b***ch was dead with her mom. She is a horrible human," as per the affidavit.
