Country Star Goes Rogue on CMAs After Iconic Friend Snubbed: “The CMA Doesn’t Care”

The country star said that the CMAs were quick to "roll out the welcome mat" for other genres - but they snubbed a true country artist!

The CMAs are in some serious hot water at the moment. In case you weren't aware, let's fill you in:

Sammy Kershaw, the '90s country icon, was recently snubbed from the CMA's red carpet. We reported on it when it happened. He expressed his disappointment on social media, writing, "My wife, Mendy, and I don't get to attend these events very often, due to touring and schedule conflicts."

"After adjusting my touring schedule, booking our flights and hotels, she was really looking forward to us sharing a special evening together celebrating country music."

"Then, to find out I was denied the red carpet two weeks before the show, after being strung along for several months and expecting we would be attending, WTF?" Yeesh!

"I love country music," he added, "but never in a million years would I think that a successful country music entertainer would not be able to walk the red carpet."

The Country Star's Friend Went Rogue on the CMAs

Well, a lot of people immediately leaped to the defense of Sammy Kershaw on this one. I mean, to be fair, it's a pretty wild thing for the CMAs to do.

And one of those people was none other than his friend, Mark Chesnutt. He went absolutely rogue at the organization for their snubbing of one of the '90s greats, per Whiskey Riff. And the post he made on social media went viral because of it.

"So Sammy Kershaw won't be allowed to walk the red carpet at the big CMA Awards," he wrote. "Well, that's about right!"

"The CMA doesn't care about us old '90s guys any more. It's a shame they don't respect the stars that dominated that charts in the past thirty years or before that," he continued.

He then made a pretty controversial statement. "But they sure roll out the welcome mat for pop stars and Hollywood movie stars and even hip hop artists. Anything but country music gets the performance spots on the show."

I mean, country music has had a bit of a sub-genre-splosion in the past decade or so. But people have resonated with what he's saying on this one.

Whether what he's saying is right or wrong on this, one thing remains true. Sammy Kershaw getting snubbed will be a PR disaster for the CMAs!
