The 38-year-old comedian, podcaster, and Tires star popped up for the third time on the long-running comedy sketch show over the weekend. "I haven't been to the gym in so long," Gillis said during his Saturday Night Live monologue. "I didn't know women just dress like wh—s now?"
"Look, I'm sorry, there's no other way to describe - have you seen it?" Gillis continued. "I've seen it. The shorts? You've seen the shorts? They're those neon, like, artificial bait-colored, and the wrinkles go around the cheeks, and all combine at the butthole. And don't look! You're not allowed to look."
"For real, don't look because they are filming," Gillis added. "I'm in the background of like 10 TikToks right now."
Country Star Follows in the Tradition of Johnny Cash By Giving the Middle Finger...
Now, country star Maren Morris is pushing back with the time-honored tradition of flipping the bird.
"The Middle" singer took to Instagram yesterday (Oct. 12), posting a video of herself giving the middle finger, with the caption "me being a wh0re at the gym" overlaid on it. The post was set to her track "be a bitch."
"Tried to fake nice, but it didn't quite stick/ I'd rather be a bitch," the country star sings on the track. She demurely extends her middle finger before resting her chin on her fist and sending out a knowing smile.
Making sure it was clear her middle finger was extended to Gillis, she captioned the post, "leave my gym short wedgie out of it."
While the country star's comments section was decidedly mixed, plenty showed their support for the "Rich" singer's post.
"Yes! I couldn't even watch this episode after that monologue. This guy wishes he could wear short shorts," one top comment read.
Maren Morris Wasn't the Only Celeb Pushing Back at Shane Gillis and His 'SNL' Gym Rant
Of course, Morris wasn't the only high-profile person taking issue with Shane Gillis and his latest SNL monologue. Schitt's Creek creator and star Dan Levy also weighed in.
"Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them wh—s" Levy explained in his own Instagram video
He argued that guys using that label were hoisting red flags for misogyny, not observing clothing.
"There's a difference there," he continued. "By the way, I've seen more men's nipples at the gym than I've ever seen women showing their bodies off."
"I'm speechless that something like that can exist on live national television," Levy added. "And to be perfectly honest, more men need to be standing up in opposition to it because it's complacency that has created the environment in which women are sexually assaulted, and it's a 'conversation' as opposed to a 'crime.'"
Gillis fans know that his association with SNL has been troubled for going on for a decade. He was infamously booted as a cast member before his first episode back in 2019, after footage surfaced of him making racist and homophobic remarks on a podcast.
Gillis was later adopted by the Austin comedy scene, becoming a regular guest on Joe Rogan's podcast, spinning that into massively successful comedy specials and his own Netflix show.
He went on to host SNL in 2024 and again in 2025 before his latest appearance.
