Ain't Dead Yet, due out on May 29, draws on Walker's own recent battle with cancer. We have the details below.
What Kind of Cancer Does Joshua Ray Walker Have?
Back in 2024, the "Lot Lizard" singer was diagnosed with colon cancer. He underwent surgery to remove it and endured months of chemotherapy. Later that year, scans suggested that the cancer might have spread to his lungs.
In October 2024, Walker revealed that doctors had recently "poked five holes in my ribs, deflated my lung, sewed it back together, reinflated it," and removed a drainage tube for a biopsy.
After all that effort, Walker finally received some exhilarating news.
"I'm so excited to share with you that my pre-surgery diagnosis was incorrect. I've beat the odds, and to everyone's complete surprise, my lungs are cancer-free," he said.
The Story Behind "Ain't Dead Yet"
On social media, Walker described Ain't Dead Yet as "the final chapter in the trilogy of records I made before, during and after my battle with Cancer."
"Even though it's being released last, it was started first," he said. "The version of the record that will see the light of day on May 29th is the third iteration since beginning recording three years ago. It changed and grew, and suffered along with me during my journey. I'm very proud to announce that it is finally done."
In addition to his new album, this year has brought other changes for Walker. Back in January, the singer started a new Instagram account: @400days.to.400lbs.
"So if you want to watch an extremely fat man become a slightly less fat man, follow along now," he said in his first post.
Walker shared that at the start of his weight-loss journey, he weighed over 600 pounds. He has been working to get down to 400 pounds in just over a year. His plan is simple: "move more and eat less."
According to his most recent weigh-in, Walker is now down to 579 pounds. He said, "I feel better. I feel like I have more energy, and I can tell I'm getting smaller, but my lower half is holding a ton of water."
The account, which Walker created to hold himself accountable to his plan, now boasts over 470,000 followers. One of them is a country singer who has gone through a similar journey, Jelly Roll.
"You can do it brother," the "Save Me" singer wrote back in January. "I believe in you. Let's go! Hit me if you need anything."
