Chase Rice Said He Was "Living in the Shame"
Last year, when the 41-year-old Rice appeared on the In the Blind podcast, he shared something that would "shock a lot of people."
"I was molested when I was a little kid. That's the first time I ever said that in public, and I'm OK with saying that because I went through that and relived it," Rice revealed. "I'm like, 'Man, I was just a kid. I had nothing to do with that, and it was really (expletive) sad that it happened to me.'"
He then added, "It doesn't define who I am now. If I could be a grown-up and walk in and grab that kid that was me, first of all, I'd knock the (expletive) out of the person who did it. Get them out of the room, and hug me, and be like, 'Man, that's OK. You did nothing wrong. I love you anyway.'"
Rice said the abuse wasn't easy to deal with because he was "living in the shame," but that he is now facing it and working through it.
"And, you are like, 'Oh my God, what if somebody finds out?'" Rice said. "Well, guess what? I just ratted myself out. The key to me being able to even talk about it was realizing that I didn't do anything wrong. I was a kid, and that's something that I know for sure."
Rice Talked With His Mother About What Happened
Rice talked about the aftermath of his revelation recently on the Take Back Ocala podcast. He said it led to an emotional conversation with his mother.
"She said, 'I had no idea,'" Rice said. "She had an idea. And she knew it was (a) wrong part of my life and that we dealt with it the wrong way. But she'd never heard me say it."
The "Eyes On You" singer then said he doesn't blame his mother for what happened. The moment comes months after Rice said he was taking time off touring.
"Stuff happened that was wrong," he said. "I'm facing it now. It's making me stronger."
