Like many artists before her, Megan Moroney had her doubts about becoming a country music superstar.

Obviously, the "Tennessee Orange" singer has come a long way since she moved to Nashville in 2020. Her latest album, Cloud 9, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. In fact, Moroney is only the fifth female country music artist to accomplish the feat in the last decade.

But as she recently shared with Drew Barrymore on her talk show, we almost never got to hear great songs like "Wedding Dress" and "Who Hurt You?"

Megan Moroney Had A Severe Case of Writer's Block

While talking about Cloud 9, Moroney shared with Barrymore that she almost gave up her music career before it began. She had been suffering from writer's block for several months.

"I remember it was 2020. I had lived in Nashville for like six months, and I remember watching the CMA Awards alone at my apartment," Moroney said. "I remember crying that night, and I was just like, 'This is never going to happen for me.' I hadn't written a good song in like two months, and I'm like, 'This sucks. Maybe I should just move home.' And my parents encouraged me to not do that."

Of course, things turned around a year later when Moroney released "Wonder." And while her story is still being written, you can see how far she has come from that dark night in her apartment.

Moroney Still Cries a Lot, Apparently

Earlier this month, Moroney revealed that she had a good cry while writing her hit "Who Hurt You?"

The song is about a pretty emotional breakup. She said she intended to "put it out into the world and never have to talk about that situation again.

Moroney added that the process "released so many emotions and that it was "great not to have all that pent-up inside" her anymore.

She sent a photo of herself crying to her mentor, the legendary Kenny Chesney.

Moroney said, "My eyes were swollen shut." Kenny joked that the picture was so revealing that it would be 'their picture of the day.'"

While there has been some speculation about who the song is about, Moroney hasn't confirmed the identity of the song's subject.
