On June 8, 2025, the "I Hate Alabama" singer was driving his Chevrolet Silverado when he struck pedestrian Dorothy Dobbins at a crosswalk near Van Buren Street and 3rd Avenue North in Nashville.

Smith was not impaired at the time of the incident. He also fully cooperated with the investigation.

He said at the time, "Not a day has gone by that I haven't grieved, prayed, and mourned for Ms. Dobbins and her family."

On July 10, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department issued Smith a misdemeanor. However, the charge was withdrawn at the request of Dobbins' family.

In the aftermath of the incident, Smith canceled some shows and stayed out of the spotlight. He said in December that the timing of his return is up to God.

But recently, Smith took some time to reflect on the incident once again.

Conner Smith Talked About the "Hardest Day" of His Life

In a clip shared on social media, Smith reflected on how God has healed his soul over the past year.

"A year ago today was the hardest day of my life," he said. "I've talked about it over the last year enough, and there's not much more to add, other than God is so much better than I could have ever imagined. He is sovereign and real and true and an incredible healer."

Smith then spoke about a recent moment that led him to ask God an important question.

"About six weeks ago, my buddy texted me and asked if I would hop up for his song at The Listening Room," he shared. "I haven't been back since that night in June.

He added, "I told him, 'Yeah, of course.' I didn't really think about it much, to be honest... so one year later to the day was the date that he asked me to hop up in The Listening Room."

Smith said, "I was sitting with Jesus this morning and thinking about the last year and everything we've walked through and everything we've experienced. The radical change in my life from walking through a suffering like that. But I was also kind of asking him, 'Why is it in your intentionality that you'd have me back there?' As I was talking to a friend, he brought up the point that he felt like God was marking time."

Smith's Career Is Now In God's Hands

Smith shared that he felt comfortable returning to The Listening Room because it was for the glory of God. Smith then announced that his career is now in the Lord's hands. He invited others to explore or deepen their relationship with Him.

Smith said, "Anything that my life ever becomes after this year, do know that it will be for His glory and by His will."
