The "Just Call Me Lonesome" singer shared the news on his Instagram account yesterday, saying his shows with Kelly Willis this weekend will be rescheduled.

What Happened to Radney Foster?

According to the social media message, the infection was serious enough to require a hospital stay.

"While he is improving and has been released from the ICU, his doctors have advised him to take time away from the road to focus on his health," it read.

It added, "We know this is disappointing news, and the decision was not made lightly."

The cancellation appears to only affect Foster's shows from June 11 to 13 in Chicago, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Columbus, Ohio. Ticket holders are asked to contact venues for information on the rescheduled dates while Foster continues his recovery.

Foster Has Been an Inspiration to Many

Foster was introduced to country music fans as part of Foster & Lloyd. The single "Crazy Over You" made history by being the first debut single by a duo to reach the top of the country charts.

But it was his 1992 solo debut, Del Rio, TX 1959, that made Foster a household name. It produced several hit singles, including "Just Call Me Lonesome," "Nobody Wins," "Easier Said Than Done," and "Hammer and Nails."

Darius Rucker said Foster's debut made him want to become a country singer, even before he joined Hootie and the Blowfish.

"I was like, 'This guy just took me to a whole new level,'" Rucker said. "I'd say that to the guys [in Hootie]. Like, 'Let's try to play some country.' And they didn't want to. We put a couple of songs on the record, but nobody wanted to really [sing country music]. So, we went and did the rock-and-roll thing. But I always said I was going to do a country record if I ever got a chance. And one day, I got a chance."

Foster's songs have also been covered by Keith Urban, The Chicks, Sara Evans, and Jack Ingram.
