Country Music Shines in New Ashton Kutcher Netflix Series

Netflix has gone country.

Country music helps guide the streaming service's new 30-minute sitcom, The Ranch, which depicts the life of a former football star (Ashton Kutcher) who returns home to help run his family's ranch in Garrison, Colo.

The country feel of the series kicks off right from the get-go with "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" as the theme song. Originally performed by Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, this one is covered by a both of their sons, Lukas Nelson and Shooter Jennings.

You'll hear some familiar country songs throughout the episodes, such as Billy Currington's "Drinkin' Town With A Football Problem," Luke Bryan's "Rain Is A Good Thing" and Thomas Rhett's "Crash And Burn," but the majority of the soundtrack spotlights a crisp new sound that hasn't yet made its way to mainstream.

Credit for that goes to the music supervisor of The Ranch, Frankie Pine, who also supervises the music selection of ABC's Nashville, which has been praised for its non-traditional music choices.

Artists on The Ranch soundtrack include Corb Lund, the Turnpike Troubadours, American Aquarium, Justin Townes Earle, Brandi Carlile, Nathaniel Rateliff, Love and Theft, The Night Sweats, Ashley Monroe and more.

With more and more households nixing cable for platforms like Hulu and Netflix, shows like The Ranch are helping keep country music in the forefront of new audiences, with a mix of both current and up and coming artists that make up the ever growing world of country. It also gives those not yet on country radio a chance to be heard.
