Country Music Mourns the Death of a “True Texas Troubadour,” Dead at 57

The country star was instrumental in several country bands throughout his life. His tragic passing is being mourned by the country scene.

A quiet legend of the country music scene has tragically died. As reported by Yahoo! Entertainment, Brian Burns was only 57 years old.

You may not know who he is exactly, but you'll have definitely heard his drumming or his songwriting. He got his start in the music scene with the band Freewheelin' when he was just 16 years old.

And, since then, Burns has been around, fronting and participating in "numerous other country bands". He was also known for playing in house bands for various events, including Willie Nelson's Fourth of July Picnic and various Farm Aid performances.

His wife, Veronica Burns, confirmed his passing in a tearful statement posted on social media. "On July 4, 2026, I lost my husband, confidant, best friend and the sweetest boy ever," she lamented.

"Brian was intelligent, a constant seeker of knowledge, creative, talented, funny, quick-witted, complicated and I loved it all. I am devastated and right now I can not imagine being on this life journey without him."

She explained that she had been married to him for almost 30 years.

She finished the statement with a tearful reference. "As Brian has said many times when someone he admired, cared about, or loved left this earth—Godspeed. Brian, I hope you have found peace, my love."

Her statement also included a mention of the children he left behind. "Brian was dad to Ryan, Jessica, and Amanda. He was Papa to Cooper, Eleanor, Carter, and Olivia."

Tributes Have Poured in for the Country Star

Professionals who knew Brian Burns well have lamented his passing. Vince Bell, a Texas singer-songwriter, wrote that "Brian Burns knew a lot about everything, especially Texas, and he put it into his songs."

He branded Burns as a "true Texas troubadour", saying that "there was a time when there was a music festival in Texas, Brian was there." He added, "He could captivate any crowd with his finely crafted original songs, he didn't need a band."

The "Texas troubadour" retired from country music in 2017 to focus on graphic design and photography.

What a loss to the country music scene. Rest in peace to Brian Burns.
