Violet Hensley, the country music legend known as the "Whittlin' Fiddler", has passed away. As reported by People, she was 109 years old when she died on August 7.
Hensley, who was Arkansas' oldest living country music legend, was also known as the "Silver Dollar City legend." Her tragic passing was
"Today, it is with great sadness that we share the passing of Ms. Violet Hensley, a true Arkansas legend and an honorary member of the Leslie community."
"Although Ms. Violet called Yellville home, she held a special place in the hearts of the people of Leslie. As the world-renowned Whittlin' Fiddler, she embodied the traditions, craftsmanship, and spirit that have made our community the Whittling Capital of America."
They went on to explain just how much the country music legend meant to the community, noting the accolades they gave her. "In 2025, it was our great privilege to honor Ms. Violet by proclaiming Violet Hensey Day and presenting her with the Key to the City of Leslie in recognition of her lifetime of preserving the art of whittling and traditional Ozark music."

Tributes Have Poured in for the Country Music Legend
Tributes have poured in for the country music legend on social media. People remembered her skill and prowess with the fiddle, as well as their personal experiences with her.
One commenter wrote, "I am so glad I got to meet her up in Mountain View about six or seven years ago. And hear her play the fiddle. She is a great lady and a treasure to country music."
Another commenter wrote, "A true Arkansas legend has left us, but her legacy will live on... REST IN PEACE!!"
One fan remembered her experience with Violet Hensley. She recalled that her mother had called the country music legend because her sister was a violinist and wanted to meet her. She explained that Hensley "graciously invited us to her home"
Her granddaughter, Avery Hensley, also posted a thank-you to people remembering the country music legend. She wrote, "Thank you everyone for your prayers for our family at this passing of my Grandmother."
