Watch Brent Cobb's Rootsy 'Country Bound' Duet with His Dad at the Opry

In one of his first performances at the Grand Ole Opry, rising artist Brent Cobb kept it all in the family.

"Please welcome my daddy Patrick Cobb out," Brent Cobb says to the Opry crowd. "He's gonna sing his song with me tonight." The band then launches into "Country Bound," a rousing modern interpretation of the outlaw country sounds of the 1970s.

With swirling electric guitars and rootsy, down-home lyrics, the song feels reminiscent of a time Patrick likely cherished growing up. And how cool is it to sing with your son on one of country music's most revered stages?

After years writing in Nashville, Brent Cobb looks poised to make a big splash. The singer's visibility certainly skyrocketed over the past several months, thanks in part to his new album Shine On Rainy Day.

But Brent Cobb first started making noise in country music back in 2011. That's when he landed some of his first big cuts as a songwriter.

Cobb penned tracks for Luke Bryan, Eli Young Band, Frankie Ballard and David Nail that year. He then landed tunes with artists like Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert and Kenny Chesney.

Cobb's throwback style matched with his unabashedly sweet country boy personality make him one of the most likable newcomers in country music. Of course, being cousins with producing wunderkind Dave Cobb doesn't hurt, either.

In fact, Dave produced Brent's new album Shine On Rainy Day. The whole thing never would've started if not for Brent's dad Patrick convincing him to send some songs to Dave. At the time, Dave hadn't yet produced huge albums for Chris Stapleton or Jason Isbell, but he did already have some strong cred in Los Angeles. Dave begrudgingly agreed to listen to Brent, but completely changed his tune after hearing some of Brent's demos.
