The incident took place in Beaumont at around 1:30 am on Friday. News outlet, The New York Post has posted a short clip of the footage. The video shows a lady running to a red convertible in a parking lot, followed by an officer. He attempts to jump into the back seat of the vehicle, but not before the driver steps on the gas. Unfortunately, the cop misses the seat and only makes it onto the rim of the door with nothing to grab onto.
As the car jolts forward, the officer loses his grip and falls to the floor in the worst possible way. The cop falls backward, bumping the back of his head on the road. He's unable to brace for the impact in any way and appears to be unconscious.
The worst part of the video is what happens next. The police officer lies motionless on his back while onlookers gingerly walk toward him. One pedestrian seems more interested in taking a picture than actually helping, and then the footage ends.
The Driver Of The Moving Vehicle Has Since Been Arrested
According to the news outlet KDFM, authorities arrested the driver of the convertible shortly after the incident. Authorities caught the suspect, Jamaysha Butler, 28, after a pursuit on foot near her home.
Authorities have not named the officer who fell from the vehicle. However, he is in a stable but serious condition in hospital with a brain bleed.
KDFM explains that another suspect, Melissa Bell, 22, was also arrested.
Another officer who arrived on the scene afterward found Bell handcuffed. Bell allegedly tried to get between the unnamed officer and Butler before the incident. Authorities are charging her with assault on a peace officer, public intoxication, resisting arrest, and interference. Bell also has outstanding warrants.
As for Butler, the driver, she faces charges of intoxication assault and evading arrest while inflicting serious injury to a peace officer. The Beaumont Police Department has released mug shots of both suspects on their
Facebook feed.
