You don't usually think of a refrigerator as an appliance that poses a danger. However, comedian Laura Clery found out otherwise recently. The 39-year-old comedian had an awful accident with one at home. She was pinned by the 600-pound fridge with apparently no way to escape or wriggle free. Per TMZ, "...[T]he accident happened earlier this week while she was home alone with her two children. She said the refrigerator suddenly slammed into her and pinned her against the counter, leaving her unable to move or breathe."

Remarkably, Clery kept her wits about her despite being absolutely terrified. That may very well have saved her life. She managed to contact 911. In fact, she even sent her former husband, Stephen Hilton, a text that read, "I'm dying. Come by now now now."
She has a couple of theories about why the refrigerator moved and trapped her. Clery claims that a contractor supposedly did not correctly mount the fridge to the wall. Additionally, her little boy allegedly climbed on the appliance, and it subsequently tipped. Whatever the explanation, Clery fortunately survived the nightmarish incident.
Clery Posted About the Accident on Social Media
Clery wrote this on a video showing her rescue by firefighters: "As a single mom, my biggest fear came true. I was very seriously hurt [and] struck while home alone with my two young kids. Thank GOD I was able to call 911. Thank. God."
She is moaning and crying in pain. At one point, Laura Clery fearfully asks the firefighters if she broke any bones. One of them replied that they were taking her to a trauma center for evaluation. Listening to her, you can just sense her agony and terror.
The Comedian Described Her Ordeal in Detail
Clery also posted this unnerving description. "...I was home alone getting ready for bed when my 600-pound fridge slammed into me and [pinned] me against the counter. I couldn't move. Couldn't breathe right. Was impossible to get off and I could feel myself losing consciousness. My kids were in the house. I genuinely didn't know if I was getting out of that alive. Thank God my phone was in my pocket and I was able to call 911. Thank God it didn't fall on my kids. It took three firefighters to lift it off me....."
She Expressed "Overwhelming Gratitude" to Her Rescuers
In yet another Instagram post, Laura Clery emotionally thanked the people who saved her. They broke through her garage door to reach her and free her from behind the enormous, weighty fridge. To Clery, they are heroes.
She wrote, "I keep thinking about how differently this could have gone, and I just feel overwhelming gratitude. No broken bones, my kids are okay and safe, I can walk... I'm so lucky! They were calm, kind, and just handled everything like absolute heroes! And then right as one of them pushes the fridge off me, he goes, 'Wait... I watch all of your videos!' and they all start hyping me up like sir... I am currently being flattened but thank you."
