Colorado Woman Recruited Stranger On Bus To Kill Her Husband After He Doubted She Could Find A Job

Back in 2020, a Colorado woman named Ashley White had a job interview in Denver. While she was returning home on a bus, White texted her boyfriend, Cody DeLisa, telling him about the interview. DeLisa, however, told her he didn't think she could get the job. White then recruited a man sitting on the bus to kill her boyfriend, shooting him twice in the head.

According to a statement released by the Adams & Broomfield Colorado District Attorney, months before the August 13, 2020 incident, both White and DeLisa's relationship was already strained. DeLisa continuously criticized White's inability to get a job, and White displayed resentment toward him, even writing about it in her diary. She even wished she had never met him at all.

However, all things got out of hand when White was returning from her job interview. "During their exchange, DeLisa expressed skepticism about her chances of getting the job, which upset White," the statement reads.

Right then and there, a man introduced himself as Scott to Ashley White. "Scott asked if she was in a relationship with a man and whether he raped her," the statement continued. "White responded that he had, and Scott then said they must kill him."

Both White and Scott then exited the bus and spent some time together, even firing Scott's gun. They both then went and entered White's home, where Cody DeLisa was at the time. White introduced Scott as her Texas brother. "A short time later, DeLisa was shot twice in the head," the statement reads. "His body was discovered the following day during a welfare check."

Arrested, Charged, Convicted

White and Scott stole DeLisa's wallet and then parted ways. White was deemed a suspect and, after speaking with investigators and providing a "detailed account of the events that led to DeLisa's death," she was arrested and charged.

In 2023, a woman contacted the District Attorney's Office. She claimed that her boyfriend, Michael Stratton, matched the description of "Scott." Stratton was already in custody for a different murder, but he was deemed unfit to stand trial. He has not been charged for DeLisa's murder.

White, however, was perfectly fit to stand trial. After three weeks, she was found guilty of second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, and robbery on January 28, 2025.

"This was a tragic and senseless murder and Ashley White bears significant culpability for it," District Attorney Brian Mason said in the statement. "Her callous actions led to the victim's death and now she will pay a significant price."

Ashely White will appear before Adams County District Judge Jeffrey Ruff for her sentencing on April 4, 2025.
