Memorial Day means it's time to get the pool floats out of storage. If you're looking for a new float that will wow your friends (and quite possibly scare everyone else off), Kentucky Fried Chicken has just the thing: a life-sized Colonel Sanders float.
No, really. You can float the summer away while perched on the Colonel, and the inflatable version will also hold your drink and a bucket of fried chicken. It's the American dream, right?
We're not sure what Harland Sanders, the original Kentucky Colonel who started the restaurant chain in a gas station in North Corbin, Kentucky, and developed the "secret recipe" would think about his likeness on a pool float, but it definitely makes a statement.
"We wanted to create the perfect vessel for enjoying the Crispy Colonel sandwich (or a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken). Enter the KFC Colonel floatie," said Andrea Zahumensky, KFC U.S. CMO. "Summer is about making fun memories, and what better way to do that than drifting on the water in the arms of the one and only Colonel Sanders."
If you caught KFC's most recent television commercial, you've seen the Colonel Sanders float in action by way of actor George Hamilton announcing the chain's new sandwich, the Crispy Colonel.
There's only one way to get these giant floats, though, because they're not for sale. KFC is giving away hundreds of them through a sweepstakes that runs through June 22. To enter, visit the KFC site here. The fast food chain, which is based in Louisville, Kentucky, says the winners will be chosen on June 23 and most winners should get their floatie in time for the 4th of July weekend. An important note — the contest is only open to residents of the United States.
KFC is also partnering with Snapchat to create a World Lens that brings the Colonel to life in an augmented reality experience that enables users to live the Extra Crispy lifestyle with the help of their smartphone camera. Snapchatters can also enter to win a KFC Colonel floatie directly from the lens starting on Memorial Day, May 28.
If you're one of the lucky winners, we suggest keeping your white suit and string tie to a more water-friendly version and remember, even finger lickin' good chicken shouldn't be left out in the sun for long.
