Quarterback With Stolen Possessions?
Tulane transfer quarterback TJ Finley was booked on Wednesday, April 2nd, for possession of stolen goods. The possessions in question totaled $25,000, according to the New York Post. I assume your next question is, what did he allegedly steal? Well, if you believe him and his lawyers, nothing.
According to his lawyers, Finley got catfished into buying the stolen car on Facebook Marketplace. How you go through the process of buying a car without realizing it's been stolen is a little beyond me, but I'll buy it for now.
His attorneys allege that the seller was marketing himself as Mountain Adventures LLC. Which, as far as company titles go, already sounds illegitimate. Mountain Adventures is a hiking tour name, not a used car salesman.
Per the attorneys, Finley was provided with a bill of sale and registration. Now, I don't know much about buying cars, but isn't there usually a name somewhere on these legal documents? Maybe a name allowing you to verify if the pickup truck you're buying is stolen?
Within three days of the alleged 'legitimate purchase', the police informed Finley the car had been stolen. If he really thought he bought the car legitimately, that must've been a tough phone call.
The Investigation
During these tumultuous events, Tulane has suspended the quarterback. Which, unfortunately, makes sense. After practice, Coach Jon Sumrall addressed the investigation, stating, "When guys make mistakes, then they have to have accountability." As far as words of encouragement for Finley go, those left much to be desired.
Per Finley's lawyers, the Tulane quarterback has been entirely cooperative with authorities. He allegedly wants his funds returned and to clear his name.
This is Finley's fifth school and his last year of eligibility. He redshirted at Western Kentucky after an ankle injury kept him on the sidelines all year. It would be a total shame if he couldn't finish off his collegiate career on a high note with Tulane. Hopefully, this is all one big misunderstanding
