So you think that filming a weekly TV series is cushy and glamorous? Ask Cole Hauser, the actor who played Rip Wheeler on Yellowstone. He is revisiting the choice role on the new spinoff Dutton Ranch. Once again, Hauser is portraying the husband of Beth Dutton, the role played to quirky perfection by Kelly Reilly. He recently opened up about the hardships that he and the cast and crew went through due to the extreme Texas weather. It sounds really miserable! For fans of the show, however, all the effort was worth it.

Everyone Really Roughed It on Set, Hauser Said
Add to that just plain exhaustion. "I think it was the end of the nine months of work, so I think I was a bit wiped out. The cast and crew were wiped out," Cole Hauser frankly told People. Then pile on the intense weather. "We went through a lot of weather issues with the heat, then the freezing cold, and there were ice storms. It was just nuts." When the season wrapped, it seems like everyone was ready for a nice long break.
"I think everybody at the very end of episode 9 was ready to take a breather, go home, rest up and get ready for this next year."
Even in view of the difficulties they all faced, Hauser says he is very pleased with the result. "All in all, I think the whole season was tough, but it was very rewarding in the end. The audience loved it. The critics loved it. I can't wait to continue to make Dutton Ranch as good as it can be."
The Director Said They Sweltered and Froze
Christina Alexandra Voros, the director of Dutton Ranch, previously shared with the outlet that the weather was a combination of extremes while they filmed season one. They toughed it out. Voros said,
"When filming began, it was around 106 degrees for the first week that we were shooting. We finished the show in March and we got shut down for four days because of an ice storm. So we had every weather emoji over the course of shooting this. Our crew is really intrepid. Our cast is really intrepid. We got through all of it, but it wasn't easy."
Hauser Dropped Some Hints About Next Season
Cole Hauser didn't give away much, but he is fired up about the next season of Dutton Ranch. He confided to People, "We have a wonderful new showrunner, Ben Cavell, and I've been talking to him. He's a very special guy, and I think the future is bright—not only for myself, but Beth [Kelly Reilly] and Carter [Finn Little] and the show in general. I think this is going to be a really nice next step."
