Cody Johnson Won't Confirm Or Deny A Luke Combs Collaboration

Cody Johnson is celebrating a No. 1 single with "I'm Gonna Love You," his duet with Carrie Underwood. But it seems that Johnson also might have another collaboration in the works. The Texan hints that he may -- or may not -- have a song coming out with Luke Combs in the near future.

"Maybe I'm going in this year to go record a new album," Johnson hints on Audacy's Superstar Power Hour. "And there's a certain song that I'm pretty certain, we're just, we're kind of playing with it, we're going back and forth," Cody says of working with Combs. "I mean, it could be in the works. I can neither confirm nor deny."

Johnson has been a vocal fan of Combs, and not just for his singing. Combs joined Johnson for the second night of Johson's Leather Deluxe Tour in Nashville. The two closed out the show by singing Combs' big hit "Beer Never Broke My Heart." Although in real life, Johnson admits he has questions about Combs' drinking ability.

"When he shotguns a beer, it like defies science and physics to me," Johnson jokes. "I'm like, 'Where does the liquid go?'"

Cody Johnson's Massive Success With "I'm Gonna Love You"

"I'm Gonna Love You" is Johnson's fourth chart-topping single. The father of two is grateful that Underwood recorded the song with him, especially since he says he wouldn't have done it without her.

"So, I get the song and as soon as I hear it, I went 'Carrie Underwood,'" Underwood recalls to his record label. "And they're like, 'Well, what about this person, what about this person?' I'm like, 'Nope, it's Carrie Underwood.' So then, once Carrie and I are in the studio, she's like, 'You know, I had this song. This is the second time it's come into my life' and I'm like, 'Well, that's if that's not meant to be. I don't know what is'."

Johnson was already a fan of Underwood, but became an even bigger fan after they recorded "I'm Gonna Love You" together.

"It's a beautiful song, and she did such a great job on it," Johnson says. "She's such a professional. I can't stress that enough. She is as good of a human being as she is a singer and I'm very, very blessed to be able to work with her."
