Cody Jinks and Paul Cauthen Join Forces for 'Luckenbach, Texas' Cover

Last week, we were in AM country heaven watching Cody Jinks and Paul Cauthen share the stage at the Tumbleweed Music Fest in Kansas City, Mo. During Jinks' Saturday night set, the two Texans joined for a no-frills cover of Chris Cornell's "Black Hole Sun," which they recorded earlier this summer shortly after Cornell passed. On Thursday, the pair released another studio collaboration, a cover of the Willie and Waylon classic "Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)."

The cover is featured on the Amazon Original Playlist Open Road, which debuts on Amazon Music this Friday (Aug. 4). The 30 songs on the playlist are collaborative covers of classic road trip songs. Other familiar country and Americana names on the list include Robert Ellis, Son Volt, John Paul White, Shaun Colvin, among others.

Jinks' and Cauthen's "Luckenbach" is one of the standouts on the playlist. They have two of the most distinct voices in country music today, and they pair oh so well together. Cauthen's preacher-like baritone has a natural match with Jinks' low Texas croon.

This cut also features vocals from Nik Lee, who is a member of the rotating band of players The Texas Gentlemen. Keep your eyes and ears on that band, as they're some of the best young players in the country music scene.

Jinks and Cauthen are both currently on tour in the U.S. If you haven't seen their respective shows, you're doing yourself a grave injustice. You can view a list of Cauthen's current dates here and Jinks' upcoming tour stops here.
