The women on the ABC daytime talkfest The View are known for their outspoken political stands and their no-holds-barred frankness. Nevertheless, they are people, too, with personal lives and challenge like all of us have. Case in point: Sara Haines was not in her seat for one day last week and she explained why. The reason was an excruciating tragedy in her family.

In tears on Thursday, September 17, Haines said that she was not present on Wednesday, September 18, because her husband's dad had passed away. She learned of his death moments before The View began taping, so Haines bowed out.
"I wanted to share why I was missing yesterday," Sara Haines confided to her colleagues and the audience. "My father-in-law passed away. He's been in hospice for a week, so we knew it was coming." She added, "I think the second that landed, it kind of allowed a load you're carrying for so long gush out."
"It's Brutal"
Haines noted that to her husband, Max Shifrin, his dad was everything. Therefore, the loss of a beloved parent is truly incalculable. "Max has been gone, he hasn't seen the kids, and now he's finally back, and we're pouring love into him. It was the most important person in Max's life. I think I learned about this man on my first date because it was Max's North Star, so it's the chapter we're in and we'll all be part of this club eventually. But, wow, it's brutal."
Per Enertainment Weekly, Haines and Shifrin have been married for 12 years and have three children. Sometimes she does speak about her private life, either on the show or its podcast.
She Reached Out to Others Who Are Also Mourning Someone Dear to Them
Bereavement can feel so isolating. People don't know what to say, so they many sidestep being around you. You may think that no one could possibly understand your emotions, so you retreat. Maybe you just need to be within yourself to deal with the loss. However, for all those in the heavy throes of grief, Sara Haines has a key message.
She wrote on Instagram, "To anyone who is grieving or loving someone who is grieving, you are not alone."
