Jessica and Cliff Wilder have long been fans of country music star Clay Walker. In fact, the high school sweethearts turned husband and wife heard “This Woman and This Man” on their first date in 1994 and later used it as their wedding song. The song, which is part of the couple’s soundtrack to their relationship, appropriately holds a very special place in each of their hearts.

In 2015, Jessica Wilder was diagnosed with breast cancer. The disease led her down a nine-month road of treatments, ending on March 9 and leaving her cancer free. To celebrate the life-affirming moment, Cliff Wilder surprised his wife with a vacation that included a Walker concert. After a twelve-hour drive from N.C. to Miss. for the show, Jessica received the surprise of a lifetime.

Wearing a bucket list shirt that Cliff made for Jessica specifically for the show, Walker shined the spotlight on the Wilders and told the entire crowd about their journey. The shirt, which had boxes for finishing chemotherapy and completing radiation, only had one missing checkmark, and that was next to “See Clay Walker sing ‘This Woman and This Man'”. Walker borrowed a Sharpie and checked the item off himself before performing the Wilders’ special song for the Miss. audience.

“Moments like this, that I shared with Cliff and Jessica, is why we as entertainers do what we do,” Walker told the crowd. “I will never forget the absolute joy on their faces and being a part of something so wonderful in their lives.”
