Just Who Was the Legend That Is Chuck Norris?
Chuck Norris was born in 1940 in Ryan, Oklahoma. Before turning to acting, he was known for his martial arts work. After a stint in the US Air Force, he first opened up a martial arts studio in Torrance, California.
Chuck Norris fought in many very high prestige karate championships. He won the International Karate Tournament in 1967, and the All-American Karate Championship on that same year. He defended his titles for years after that.
But, he was most well known for using that karate prowess in his movies. His first major role was acting as Bruce Lee's nemesis in 1972's critically acclaimed Way of the Dragon. He then performed a string of roles as a martial artist actor, before really breaking through.
Chuck Norris' most famous action films included 1984's Missing in Action, where he plays Colonel James Braddock, and 1983's Lone Wolf McQuade, where he really showed off his martial arts skills while playing a rogue Texas Ranger.
Rest in peace to a true legend.
