Per a report by KTVU, the spillage occurred on Friday afternoon last week on Interstate 580 at Redwood Road. The California Highway Patrol reportedly shut down the Hayward Highway while they played a massive scale game of 'pick up sticks.' Fortunately, nobody was injured, and no accidents were reported that were related to the spill.
The California Highway Patrol posted about the incident on social media.
"CHP officers responded to a traffic hazard on I-580 at Redwood Road, only to find... THOUSANDS of chopsticks scattered across the lanes!" The Highway Patrol jokes. "Turns out, someone turned the freeway into a giant game of pick-up sticks! Unfortunately, this means a local restaurant might be short on utensils tonight."
One image shows at least 17 boxes strewn across three lanes in the middle of the highway. There appear to be other things on the road, but the tarmac is completely covered with small packets of chopsticks.
The CHP Reminds Drivers To Take Care Of Their Cargo On The Highway
The California Highway Patrol uses the incident to remind drivers to secure any items they may be traveling with. "Don't let your cargo take an unplanned detour—it's a hazard for everyone and a headache for us!"
The chopstick mishap is eerily similar to another recent truck spill in Florida. This truck was carrying milk instead of eating utensils and collided with a stone barrier on I-95. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, although the impact smashed the truck's trailer, causing over 4000 gallons of milk to spill onto the highway.
The Palm Beach County Fire Rescue posted about the incident on Instagram, explaining that the mess took over three hours to clean up. They also brought their A-game with a barrage of milk puns. The team used every bit of wordplay they could muster, from "udderly" to "moo-ved."
On a more serious note, the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue reiterated that they were glad nobody was hurt. As the incident happened during the early hours of the morning, they managed to clean everything up before the rush hour traffic showed up.
