But these are products you (hopefully) won't put in your child's Easter basket. We have all the details below.
What Are the Details of the Chocolate Recall?
Gear Isle, an adult novelty company based in California, is voluntarily recalling two of its products. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made the announcement on Thursday.
After testing certain units of its Gold Lion Aphrodisiac Chocolate and ilum Sex Chocolate, the presence of sildenafil and tadalafil was found. These ingredients are commonly used in erectile dysfunction medications.
The undeclared ingredients could cause life-threatening health issues, especially for those taking nitrate medications for heart conditions. For example, the combination can cause a drop in blood pressure.
The two products were sold online nationwide. They were marketed as dietary supplements.
The announcement read, "Among the adult male population who are most likely to use these products, adult males who use nitrates for cardiac conditions are most at risk from these products."
What Should Users Do?
The recall affects the following products:
- Gold Lion Aphrodisiac Chocolate Male Enhancement Sachet (UPC: 795847916279, exp. June 2027)
- ilum Sex Chocolate Male Sexual Enhancement Booster (UPC: 1002448578911, exp. Dec. 25, 2027)
Those who have the products are recommended to stop using them immediately. They can be returned for a refund.
Gear Isle says it has not received any reports of anyone harmed by the chocolate products. According to the FDA, anyone experiencing symptoms should contact a healthcare provider.
Anyone with questions about the recall can call 888-387-4753 or email [email protected] Monday to Friday from 10 am to 4 pm PST.
This comes in the wake of another high-profile recall involving a chocolate product. While not a supplement, Lidl US issued a recall for its Favorina Chocolate Ladybugs due to an undeclared hazelnut allergen.
At this time, no illnesses have been reported from consuming the Favorina Chocolate Ladybugs.
