After a week of teasing on social media, Chip and Joanna Gaines made a big announcement this morning. HGTV's power couple are opening a second vacation rental in Waco!
Earlier this week, Joanna posted a shot of a impeccably organized bookshelf. The caption touted an exciting new project, calling it "one for the books." So punny.
The post had fans guessing, but most thought she'd be announcing a new book.
The next post, a beautiful bathroom, pointed fans in a little better direction. Some guessed a hotel, which is pretty darn close.
Finally, this afternoon, Gaines revealed their new endeavor.
We are now opening another vacation rental! Chip and I had so much fun restoring this old Waco icon and cannot wait to welcome guests starting this fall. This house dates back to 1903 and we definitely kept its old world charm—our hope is that friends and families from all over can make lasting memories here during their visit to Waco. Chip and Joanna Gaines purchased the property about a year ago, unsure of what they'd do with it. They spent that year restoring the Hillcrest Estate, and now it's finally done. "This house dates back to 1903 and we definitely kept its old world charm," Gaines said on Instagram.
Here's what the estate looked like when they bought it. It has good bones, but the house was definitely dated.
The library has some amazing potential, but it was just a bit too stuffy.
The backyard is huge and left the Gaines with plenty of options. It will be interesting to see if they leave the original patio and pathway.
Since the Gaines' spent a year updating the estate, you can bet it now looks completely different. Given the bathroom sneak peek on Instagram, the updates will be super chic but not gaudy.
This is definitely going to be a sought after vacation spot in Waco. The couple has already given a boost to tourism in Texas, so it'll be interesting to see how much impact this new rental has.
They haven't announced when it will be ready to rent, but it will surely book up quickly.
