"Let's ride, Warden," were the final words that Steven Lawayne Nelson uttered. He uttered these words right before a dose of lethal chemicals was injected into his veins. Nelson had been arrested and stood accused of fatally strangling and suffocating a pastor inside of his own church. Rev. Clint Dobson of NorthPointe Baptist Church in Arlington was beaten, strangled, and suffocated. Additionally, Dobson's secretary was also horribly beaten but she survived her injuries.

These horrific events happened back in 2011 when Nelson and some companions carried out these crimes. Despite the mountain of evidence, Nelson maintained his innocence in regard to the murder. Daily Mail shares that "Nelson's fingerprints and pieces of his broken belt at the crime scene, drops of the victim's blood on his sneakers, and surveillance video showing him driving Elliott's car and using her credit cards."

Maintained Innocence Until The Very End

However, Nelson claimed he was not a part of the killings. Instead, he claims that he simply acted as a lookout and was involved in robbing the two victims, but not in their deaths. He maintained that claim of innocence until the very end. According to his new wife and witnesses when he entered the chamber, "he appeared at peace with his fate in his very last moments."

Although a last meal was not provided to him, he was provided a spiritual advisor and a death penalty opponent to "pray over me [meaning Nelson] and give me last rites." Furthermore, his new wife watched on and held up their white dog as a witness to his death.

"I'm not scared," Nelson assured her in his final moments. "It's cold s**t in here. But I'm at peace, I'm ready to be at home. Let's ride, Warden."
