New Pickleball & Sports Bar Complex to Open in San Antonio

There's a new restaurant coming to San Antonio and it'll have you craving pickles...well pickleball that is. Originated in North Kansas City, Chicken N Pickle is a new outdoor entertainment venue featuring a fast-casual dining restaurant, 11 pickleball courts (6 indoor and 5 outdoor), a bar and entertainment space, food trucks, outdoor lawn games like ping pong, corn hole, and Jenga and a living room with fire pits and TV screens. According to KSAT, the entertainment complex is slated to open around Mid-April.

"We cannot wait to bring the Chicken N Pickle fun to San Antonio," said founder Dave Johnson in a press release. "We are confident people will fall in love with our delicious, wood-fired rotisserie chicken, a cold beverage, and some friendly competition on the pickleball courts."

What is Pickleball?

What do you get when you combine tennis, badminton, and ping pong? Pickle Ball! Played either indoors or out, pickleball can be either played as singles or doubles. Simply pass the ball with your paddle and if the other player misses, you get a point. The outdoor entertainment complex is planning to host pickleball clinics for beginners as well as pickleball tournaments throughout the year for more advanced players.

Chicken is King at Chicken N Pickle

There's no lack of delicious chicken at this restaurant and sports bar. The wood-fired rotisserie chicken is one of the highlighted items on the menu, served with House, Jerk, Southwest, or 7 Chili seasoning and a variety of sauces. Along with the chicken plates, Chicken N Pickle also serves sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. Try out the Pickled Chicken Sandwich with brined chicken breast, bacon, avocado, and pickle slaw if you really want to up your pickle game. According to the menu, all meat is hormone and antibiotic-free and fresh, never frozen.

For brunch, try the chicken and waffles or Junkyard burrito filled with burnt ends, black beans, pico, scrambled eggs, cheese, and chorizo fondue. It's a protein-packed breakfast that'll help you win your pickleball game.
