The apartment located in the 62000 block of North Hoyne Avenue was witness to a violent and bloody scene. After allegedly stabbing her boyfriend, Wilcox called 911 at around 2 a.m., requesting help. When police arrived, she initially told them that she didn't know who stabbed Rodgers, according to the Daily Mail. Wilcox remained distressed but was "free from blood" and clean.
She was applying pressure to Rodgers's stab wound. Police found a bloodied knife in the apartment's kitchen sink. Contrasting with the Daily Mail, the Chicago Sun-Times states that Wilcox told authorities that she had stabbed Rodgers after a fight, in self-defense.
At that moment, police put Wilcox in handcuffs and, while waiting to be taken to jail, Wilcox "ordered her [G]oogle device to play several songs and danced while handcuffed in the living room," according to court documents. Disturbingly, she began to dance to the tunes she chose to play.
Wilcox Released And Arrested Again
Jeremy Rodgers was transported to the St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. Allegedly, Rodgers told police and medical staff that Wilcox had stabbed him in the stomach. Rodgers would succumb to his wounds the very next day at the hospital. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office would determine Rodger's death a homicide, arresting Wilcox.
Whitney Wilcox was released at the time, however. At the time, prosecutors stated that she had acted in self-defense as a result of a fight between the couple. However, DNA testing confirmed that Wilcox's DNA was found in the knife's handle, with Rodgers's DNA found in the blade.
Police re-arrested Wilcox on Monday, December 2 at her home, and charged her with first-degree murder. She is currently being held without bail, pending trial. Her next court appearance is scheduled for December 24, Christmas Eve.
