Charlie Pride Announces 50th Anniversary Tour Dates

Beth Gwinn

Charlie Pride is hitting the road to celebrate his 50 years in the business. The country legend kicks off his 2016 tour on Sunday, April 30 in Albuquerque, N.M.

"I feel blessed that I'm still going strong after 50 years" said Pride. "I've always loved to sing for audiences, and that's never going to change."

The 82-year-old singer is one of the last great living country legends. He's won three Grammy's, several CMA Awards, and has notched 39 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Charts. In April, Pride received the esteemed Master Award at the Ameripolitan Awards in Austin, Texas. In the 1960's, Pride toured the dancehalls and honky-tonks with Willie Nelson amid a racially charged climate. His performances paved the way for African Americans in country music.

Pride is one of three African Americans who have been inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, and he was the first African-American to perform at the storied venue.
