Charlie Overbey

Video Premiere: Charlie Overbey's 'Slip Away,' Featuring Miranda Lee Richards

Charlie Overbey has spent the past several years touring with legendary acts such as David Allan Coe and Social Distortion. Now, the California singer-songwriter is stepping into the spotlight with his intrepid and powerful album Broken Arrow.

Overbey's current single "Slip Away" is an unflinching look at depression that offers hope and strength to those struggling.

"'Slip Away' is a song of hope, a song of the deepest depths of despair. It's a song about life, death, personal experiences with friends' suicides and the strength to just choose to live and carry on," Overbey tells Wide Open Country. "I wish everyone that strength to pull out and push on."

The song features singer-songwriter Miranda Lee Richards, whose voice blends flawlessly with Overbey's.

"We purposely had her come in cold without hearing the song so she could simply put her touch on it and she killed it!" Overbey tells Wide Open Country. "My raspy voice and her angelic voice seemed to mesh like whiskey and silk, which came out exactly as I had planned it."

The video, which Wide Open Country is premiering today, features both Overbey and Richards and captures the feeling of desperation and hope. Watch the video premiere of "Slip Away," directed by Jen Rosenstein, below.

Overbey will perform at the 2019 Stagecoach Festival in Indio, Calif. next month.

In addition to his music career, Overbey is known for his Los Angeles-based hat company Lone Hawk Hats.
