Chappell Roan Steps Into Country Music With New Single

Chappell Roan, a hit artist last year, has announced that she's stepping into country with a new single coming out soon.

The artist saw huge success last year, with numerous songs from the same album hitting it viral big time. "Pink Pony Club" (which was recently covered by Rick Astley), "HOT TO GO," and "Red Wine Supernova" were only a few of the songs on her 2023 The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess album.

It went viral last year, and Chappell Roan has been launched into the musical stratosphere ever since.

Well, it seems she's also set her eyes on country music, too. In a recent Instagram post, the artist said that she's written a country song with Daniel Nigro, "The Giver." It's out on the 13th of this month. Naturally, her fans are excited by the prospect of new music from her.

But I can already tell the country purists aren't going to like the idea of this.

Considering the reaction Beyoncé got for daring to release a country album, I can hazard a guess at how those same fans will respond to a starkly queer drag queen putting out country. Again, drawing lines in the sand will only harm the genre, but I've spouted about that before.

Such fans will be glad to know that she isn't planning to stick around. She expressed that she's been around country music all her life and just wanted to write a little country tune for the fun of it. Is that not country enough?

Chappell Roan Says Her Country Song Is A One-Off... For Now

In her lengthy caption, Chappell Roan explains why she's throwing out a country tune. She said that it's been a huge part of her life.

"I have such a special place in my heart for country music. I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bonfires, grocery stores and karaoke bars," she wrote.

Chappell Roan also explained that she won't be doing an album, although the idea hasn't been written off. Her focus right now is to make "songs that make [her] feel happy and fun." And right on, that's what music is all about, right?

"The Giver is my take on country xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre; I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for yall," she concluded.

I personally am looking forward to her take on the genre, so my calendar is firmly marked.
