A cause of death has been released for actor Tim Curry, a week after he died in his Los Angeles home.

The "Rocky Horror Picture Show" star died of coronary artery disease, Variety reported, citing documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Other contributing conditions were a history of stroke and kidney cancer.
Coronary heart disease, the most common type of heart disease in the US, is the leading cause of death nationwide.
Curry, who famously portrayed Pennywise in the beloved horror film IT, previously suffered a stroke in 2012. Following the stroke, the left side of his body was paralyzed and the actor became wheelchair-bound.
The England-born actor died Tuesday at age 80, his representative Sean Katz previously confirmed to USA TODAY.
"Tim Curry, the iconic actor and entertainer globally beloved for his dynamic contributions to the stage and screen, passed away peacefully at his home in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles," the statement read.
Curry was vocal about the health issues he faced leading up to his death. The IT star told fans in 2025 that he struggled with mobility.
"I still can't walk, which is why I'm in this silly chair, and that's very limiting," he said during an event at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles at the time. "So I won't be singing, and I won't be dancing very soon. I still have real problems with my left leg."

Over a six-decade career spanning stage, film, television and voice work, Curry played a wide range of characters.
Curry's first major stage role was in the 1968 London production "Hair."
Five years later, Curry starred in the first production of "The Rocky Horror Show" at London's Royal Court Theatre Upstairs in 1973.
He later reprised his stage role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter for the 1975 film adaptation.
In 1990, Curry terrified an entire generation of horror fans with his menacing portrayal of Pennywise in the 1990 cult-classic movie IT.
He earned a Daytime Emmy in 1991 for playing Captain Hook in the animated series Peter Pan and the Pirates.
