On December 30, one of the daughters of former ambassador Caroline Kennedy, Tatiana Schlossberg, passed away at the age of 35. She had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leulemia. The condition is a type of blood cancer. A married mom, successful journalist, and brilliant Ivy League grad, Schlossberg had virtually her whole life in front of her. At a recent public event, her mother spoke emotionally about her for the first time since her untimely death. Known for being intensely private, Caroline Kennedy is clearly still understandably grappling with the loss of a wonderful child in her prime.
Caroline Kennedy Welcomed Her Loved Ones to the JFK Library
The late president's daughter reminisced briefly about Tatiana on Sunday, May 31. Her comments came during the yearly John F; Kennedy Profiles in Courage Award ceremony at the JFK Presidential Library in Boston, Massachusetts. Attending the event were the mother and father of Tatiana's husband, George Moran, per People. Also present was the granddaughter of Sargent Shriver, Emma Shriver. Sargent Shriver was the husband of President Kennedy's sister, Eunice. Both are now deceased.
Caroline Kennedy welcomed all of them graciously in her remarks. Per the outlet, "This year we even have new family members here. I am so happy to welcome Emma Shriver and Garrett and Mary Moran." She added that "politics is a family endeavor and I am so grateful to the members of my family who are here tonight and whose support over many years has kept my father's spirit alive and made this institution a living memorial."
She Kept Her Composure While Mentioning Tatiana
In a reportedly unsteady voice, Kennedy, 68, also spoke reverently of her daughter. "Most of all, we remember Tatiana, who served on the board of this library, and represented everything my parents stood for in her beautiful, amazing and too-short life." The crowd of over six hundred applauded vigorously for about 20 seconds. They were undoubtedly deeply moved by a mother's heartbreak and her daughter's tragic passing.
